On the mat.

lt hit me today on my yoga mat, how much faith is like #yoga: it’s only beneficial if you practice it.

And nothing can make that concept more challenging than a pretty rough day.

Don’t get me wrong. I didn’t sign up for this Christianity thing because I thought it would be a barrel full of Cheetos or anything. More now than ever Christians are being persecuted for their beliefs, so I was pretty well aware that keeping things on the DL about the whole Jesus thing was the smarter move. But faith isn’t about making calculated moves on this board called “life.” It’s about loss of self in order to allow a complete transformation of head and heart.

It’s about closing your eyes and taking that leap.

And leaping, my friends, is a full on verb.
It ain’t easy, but when I open my eyes to this world, it’s more than necessary. Lessons from the good book are a good thing, but putting them into practice is a great thing, even when my day is less than brilliant.

So a quick pick me up on the mat and a conversation with the Lord has gotten me back in tune.

And tomorrow, I’ll be ready to lend the world my heart and my hands.

I haven’t seen any evidence of Christians being persecuted lately. Quite the opposite if one visits Kentucky or South Carolina, for example. Let’s be honest about the kind(s) of people who are being persecuted in America. A little clarity, a little honesty, and a little reality are called for right about now.

It’s true that a lot of people are being persecuted, David, for all sorts of reasons. I try not to pretend I know everyone’s story because it often leads to divisive and hurtful assumptions about others. All I know is that all of us need love and patience with one another. Thank you so much for stopping by, David, and I wish you a very peaceful day.

  2. Yes Ericka, religious persecution does indeed exist. Some of the most horrific is happening now in places far away. The media is full of images and stories of beheadings, burnings and even crucifixions. As for here in the U.S., I seem to recall one of the recent religious based shooters targeting victims who admitted their Christianity. http://nypost.com/2015/10/01/oregon-gunman-singled-out-christians-during-rampage/

Yes, Mike, what you mentioned is exactly what I was referring to. But I understand David’s feelings about the social situation in this country because I had the very same feelings not too long ago. The hard part of living is realizing that everyone is a human being. Everyone is a story that deserves reading. And I no longer hold the belief that only certain groups of people need love, support, and understanding. I pray that David will soon realize this, too. Thank you for seeing my point, Mike. I hope the day’s been good to you. 🙂
